Red Center Trip We have left the West MacDonnell Ranges and are staying at the National Road Transport Museum in Alice Springs. On the way to Trephina Gorge we had a quick stop and had a look at Jessy Gap. Drove to Trephina Gorge Nature Park and walked on the ridge and through the Gorge. On the way back we turned off the sealed road and drove a rough 4x4 track to John Hays Rockhole. From here we start the Chain of ponds walk. What an amazing walk even so we got lost on the way. We are leaving Alice Springs and heading north on the Stuart Hwy and visiting Aileron Art Galerie with the large statues. Red Center Trip We are staying at the Glen Helen Gorge Discovery Park (now temporarily closed) while exploring the West MacDonnell Ranges. We walk from the campground to the Glen Helen Gorge. Drive a dirt road to Redbank Gorge and walk 1.2km to the gorge and see Rock Wallabies. Explore Ormiston Gorge, Serpentine Gorge, Ellery Waterhole, Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm. We see amazing beautiful sceneries and landscapes along the way. We then drive to Gintyˋs lookout, a free camp, where we stay for one night with the best views ever. Red Center Trip We are heading to the Ayers Rock Campground where we will stay while exploring Uluru, Olgas and surrounds. We are loosing our Ozzy in the red dust on the way to Ayers Rock Campground. We bake Swiss Sausage Rolls on the Weber to take with us to Uluru for a snack. We walk around Uluru and enjoy a beautiful sunset and are amazed at the red glow of Uluru. Red Center Trip Following the Stuart Highway in northern direction. Staying overnight at the Agnes Creek Rest Area. One of the better free camps we have stayed. The next day we cross the border to the Northern Territory. We stopped at the Kulgera Roadhouse were we fueled up with diesel and made photos of the big beer can before heading to the Geographical Centre of Australia on a bad corrugated road. Enjoying the last 12km 4x4 sand track with our van. Camping at the Lambert’s Geographical Centre and listen to the nature. Slowly making our way towards the Ayers Rock Campground with one more overnight free camp at Kernot Range Rest Area. Looking at Mt Connor and a salt lake across the road. Red Center Trip Are we prepared ? We think so but we will definitely find out at the end of the Oodnadatta Track. Looking over Lake Eyre (salt lake) while having breakfast. We are staying at Coward Springs a beautiful Oasis. The campground is surrounded by date palms with rustic toilets and donkey shower. We are relaxing in the artesian hot springs. Making day visits from the campground to the Blanche Cup and Mount Springs aka the Bubbler. We turn off the Oodnadatta Track at William Creek and follow William Creek Road to Coober Pedy. Worst road we have ever driven on. Arriving in Coober Pedy and staying at the Big4 Caravan Park. Visiting an Underground opal mine and Church. Red Center Trip We are moving further in the Flinders Ranges SA and staying a few nights at the Willow Springs Station so that we could drive the Skytrek Self-Drive 4WD Track. Sadly the weather was not on our side but we enjoyed our very beautiful and private campsite. Moving on and driving through the Parachilna Gorge is just so stunning that we decided to camp there. It is a free camp with no facilities. We found a beautiful spot to camp right on a creek. Silvia shows how to bake a ´Swiss Zopf ˋon the Weber. Ozzy enjoys having the water right at the campsite. Red Center Trip Our overnight stay at the Tara Lagoon was a real surprise and Ozzy enjoyed long walks along the lagoon with an abundance of birds. Then to another epic free camp just outside Cobar called Old Reservoir. We scored a spot right on the lake and were lucky enough to watch stunning sunsets and sunrise from our van. A visit to the gold mine is a must when in Cobar and it was the closest we ever came to a working mine. At the Charlotte Plains Station we relaxed in the hot artesian baths and visited the close by town of Cunnamulla and posed at the ´Cunnamulla Fella‘ statue. Red Center Trip We are so excited to spend time in the Bendleby Ranges as this is one of our bucketlist place to visit for so long. We show you our campsite Solly‘s camp and surrounds. There are plenty of 4x4 tracks to choose from starting at low to high difficulty. We started out on the easier tracks and worked our way up as our confidence grew.
